Critical behavior of a cellular automaton highway traffic model
We derive the critical behavior of a CA traffic flow model using an order parameter breaking the symmetry of the jam-free phase. Random braking appears to be the symmetry-breaking field conjugate to the order parameter. For v max = 2, we determine the values of the critical exponents β, γ and δ using an order-3 cluster approximation and computer simulations. These critical exponents satisfy a s...

متن کاملA cellular automaton model for freeway traffic
We introduce a stochastic discrete automaton model to simulate freeway traffic. Monte-Carlo simulations of the model show a transition from laminar traffic flow to start-stopwaves with increasing vehicle density, as is observed in real freeway traffic. For special cases analytical results can be obtained.
متن کاملExactly solvable cellular automaton traffic jam model.
A detailed study is undertaken of the v{max}=1 limit of the cellular automaton traffic model proposed by Nagel and Paczuski [Phys. Rev. E 51, 2909 (1995)]. The model allows one to analyze the behavior of a traffic jam initiated in an otherwise freely flowing stream of traffic. By mapping onto a discrete-time queueing system, itself related to various problems encountered in lattice combinatoric...
متن کاملOn the existence of a variational principle for deterministic cellular automaton models of highway traffic flow
It is shown that a variety of deterministic cellular automaton models of highway traffic flow obey a variational principle which states that, for a given car density, the average car flow is a non-decreasing function of time. This result is established for systems whose configurations exhibits local jams of a given structure. If local jams have a different structure, it is shown that either the...
